The silence of the library was usually a balm to her, but today it was a cage. She sat at a table near the window, the sunlight reflecting off the dust motes dancing in the air. The letter was tucked inside a book, unseen but ever-present.

Her hands were clammy, her heart hammered against her ribs. She couldn't focus on her reading, her thoughts racing, jumping from one memory to another. She wanted to scream, to shatter the quiet with the force of her emotions.

She got up and walked aimlessly through the stacks, seeking refuge, but there was none. The past had caught up with her, and she was trapped.
